OCIO publishes best practices summary and update on recommendations for IT projects

The state Office of the Chief Information Officer has published its Quarterly Best Practices Summary and Update on Independent Oversight Recommendations for Information Technology (IT) Projects, as required under section 149(1)(a)(ii) of the 2020 Operating Budget—Supplemental (ESSB 6168).

The report summarizes key activities and accomplishments of the master level project managers, and highlights selected best practices shared with agencies. It also provides a status update on the recommendations and next steps identified in the December 2019 Independent Recommendations on Oversight of IT Projects report.

In addition, the report presents performance measures for the OCIO master level project management team and identifies several project manager resources, reference materials and document templates in development to be made available later this year.

This report introduces a new online lessons learned repository compiled from learnings from Washington state IT projects under OCIO oversight completed since fiscal year 2019.

The OCIO’s master level project managers are temporary resources for state agencies that bring professional expertise and industry best practices to support their project managers. They are available to support agency gated funding projects.
