How to Register for SecureAccess Washington (SAW)

Executive Summary:

The OCIO's SharePoint site can be accessed by partners outside the Washington state network by registering for a SecureAccess Washington (SAW) account at and entering the appropriate Service Code "SPFCTS" when the chance is offered.


Step-by-step instructions:

  1. You have probably received an invitation or link to join a Sharepoint collaboration team, with a link that starts with but when you try the link it doesn't work or you get an "access denied" kind of message
  2. Check that the following is true for your situation: "The user does not have a SAW account and has not accessed SharePoint 2013 environment using their SAW account before. If the user have a SAW account and have accessed CTS SharePoint site before, go to step “Access Denied Page”
  3. Go to and click “Do not have an account? Create one” to start the registration process.
  4. After you complete this you will receive an email to confirm your registration.  Click on the link in the email to confirm it and log in to SAW.
  5. After logging into SAW with your new account, click “My Secure Services” then click the “Add a New Service” tab and enter the Service Code (SPFCTS).
  6. Click “Apply”, complete the registration information and click “Register”.
  7. Click on the “My Services” tab under “My Secure Services”. You should now see “CTS SharePoint 2013” (followed by either ”Foundation”, “Standard” or “Enterprise” in the  “Service” column) with Status Pending Approval.
  8. Go back to the invitation email and try the link again. If it works, you can stop here. 

  9. Notify the site owner that you are requesting accessing (URL) of the SharePoint site and provide your SAW user id and the email id associated with that id.
  10. Site owner will submit a request to CTS ATS Group to approve SAW access permission along with SAW user and site URL information.
  11. Our IT group will approve a request in SAW and add the user to the OCIO site (
  12. Access Denied Page: In the browser URL field, enter the URL of the SharePoint site that you would like to access. You will be taken to SAW to authenticate.  You will see the SharePoint “Error: Access Denied” page. This is normal.
  13. Click on “Request access” to send an access request to the site administrator. The Site Owner will receive an access request e-mail and will then add your SAW user account to the site. 
  14. You will receive an e-mail once your SAW account has been granted access to the SharePoint site – click on the link in the e-mail to access the site directly (without going through the SecureAccess Washington page).
