Progress update - March 2024
We’re excited to announce the Innovation and Modernization Fund has $3 million dollars for Fiscal Year 2025 project grants. Agencies can submit project proposals from April 2 to May 14 this year.
Agencies applying for grants need to submit a project proposal using an updated pitch deck template that will be available on April 2.
Please submit your completed Pitch Deck to: IMProgram@Watech.Wa.Govno later than May 14, 2024.
The IT Investment Board will review agency proposals and invite agencies to pitch their projects at an upcoming meeting. Proposals should align with the rating criteria established by the IT Investment Board.
The Technology Services Board (TSB) is the approving authority for all proposed projects recommended by the IT Investment Board. The ITIB intends to recommend projects for funding at the June 13 TSB meeting.
The IT Investment Board will evaluate project proposals until all FY25 funding is awarded.

WaTech will host a virtual event on April 4 beginning at 9:30 a.m. to show case agency projects funded by the Innovation and Modernization (IM) program. Agencies will demonstrate technology solutions and share the business value they bring to the agency and the citizens they serve. The demonstrations are open to everyone. About
In 2023 the state Legislature created an Innovation and Modernization Fund (IMF) at WaTech that allows state agencies to address emergent legacy-systems issues or adopt innovative technology to meet a critical business need.
The 2023-25 biennial budget appropriated $3 million for the IMF, of which $1.5 million was available for fiscal year 2024. Within the first five months of availability of funding for this program, WaTech received 34 proposals totaling $6.6 million in requests. Twelve requests were approved and all funds for FY24 have been awarded.
The IM Program provides administrative review of agency proposals, establishes criteria and evaluates proposals, collaborates with state agencies to develop proposals for funds access, and provides project oversight of TSB-approved projects.
